Easy tricks to take care of your body
Between school, chores and socialising, it seems like there’s just no time to focus on keeping your body healthy. These easy tricks and tips will sort you out...
Sweat it out Exercising gives you energy and clears your mind. If running and jogging are not your thing, try power walking. This means going on a fast-paced walk for at least 20 minutes. Remember to do what your body can manage. Avoid dark, unlit streets, abandoned places like a veld or using school and community facilities when there’s no one around.
Make sleep a priority Getting 7 to 8 hours of sleep will improve your memory, refresh your mind and give your brain time to switch off and rest.
Eat well Food gives your body the nutrients it needs to grow strong, like vitamins. You get them in fruits and vegetables. If your family can’t afford to buy vegetables every day, you can grow spinach and cabbage in your backyard. Avoid sugary and fatty foods.
Listen to your body Ever had a toothache that won’t go away, or a headache or a stomach cramp that seems to last all day. Your body has many ways of telling you if there’s something wrong. If you keep experiencing pain and discomfort, it might be time to see a doctor or go to the clinic for a check-up. Don’t wait before the pain gets worse before getting help.
Slow down Don’t take on too many activities all at once. Have a timetable of what to do, and when. For instance, instead of trying to do your school work, chores, swim and play netball every day, you can swim on Mondays and Thursday, and play netball on Tuesdays and Fridays.
